The country's realtors on Sunday expressed concern over the recent price hike of the key construction materials, which could result in an unusual hike in apartment cost.
They also said the implementation of the proposed Detailed Area Plan (DAP) could also contribute to the hike of prices of flats and plots.
They made the observations while announcing a five-day fair to promote the country's real estate sector which will begin on Thursday at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in the city's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area, according to a statement.
The Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) organised the press conference at a city hotel on Sunday.
First Vice President of REHAB Kamal Mahmud, vice presidents Mohammad Sohel Rana and Sharif Ali Khan, directors and other leaders attended the event, among others.
REHAB leaders said the time-befitting measures with the stimulus package declared by the prime minister helped the sector survive amid Covid-19 outbreak.
However the recent hike of building materials like mild steel (MS) rod and cement is leading to higher cost for the sector.
According to the organisers, the fair will accommodate 220 stalls related to the sector including 15 building materials and 13 financial institutions.
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi is expected to inaugurate the fair as the chief guest of the opening ceremony, while State Minister for Housing and Public Works (MOHPW) Sharif Ahmed, MOHPW Secretary Md Shahid Ullah Khandaker, RAJUK Chairman ABM Amin Ullah Noori and the FBCCI President Jashim Uddin will attend the ceremony as the special guests.
On the first day, buyers and visitors will be able to enter the fair from 2 pm, while the rest of the day visitors will be able to enter the fair from 10 am to 9 pm.
There will be two categories of tickets for the fair-- single entry ticket for Tk 50 and a multiple entry ticket for Tk 100 which will allow a visitor to enter the fair five times, the statement said.
The money collected against ticket sales will be utilised to extend support to the needy people.
Besides, visitors may win exciting prizes on entry tickets each day at the end of the fair through a raffle draw, results of which will be published on the website www.rehabfair2021.com.
