Reconditioned car importers have urged the government to reconsider the vehicle registration fee hike that was made effective last week by an official order.
They also called for abolishing the 'dual registration system' which is currently active in the country at first for the importers and then for the car buyers.
Leaders of the Bangladesh Reconditioned Vehicles Importers and Dealers Association (BARVIDA) made the demands at a meeting with Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) chairman Nur Mohammad Majumder, says a press release issued on Tuesday.
BARVIDA president Md Habib Ullah Dawn also requested the BRTA chairman to phase out the 15 to 20 years old vehicles gradually from the capital to make a healthier Dhaka.
They also requested that BARVIDA be included in the vehicle registration process.
The BRTA chairman assured the BARVIDA leaders that they would consider their (leaders) proposals after necessary review.
BARVIDA secretary general Mohammed Shahidul Islam, vice presidents Md Aslam Serniabath, and Reaz Rahman, among others, were present at the meeting.
