Red egg and layer chicken became costlier in Dhaka city’s kitchen markets on Monday, increasing common people’s sufferings further.
Apart from this, newly-harvested onions and imported Indian onions also saw a hike by Tk 6.0 and Tk 4.0, according to the traders.
Meanwhile, the price of broiler chicken declined by Tk 10 per kg both at the retail and wholesale levels.
Higher prices of almost all the daily essentials remained unchanged, according to traders and consumers.
Prices of Pakistani and Sonali chicken remained static maintaining the previous hike.
Stakeholders said prices of many other essentials remained steady, at a higher level in most cases.
Red egg was selling at Tk 105 a dozen on Monday which was Tk 100 on Sunday, Rasel (single name), a salesman at New Bismillah Broiler at Mohammadpur Krishi Market, told The Financial Express (FE).
Layer chicken was Tk 215 per kg today, which was Tk 205 a couple of days ago, he said.
Broiler chicken was selling at Tk 175-Tk 180 a kg at the retail level on Monday which was Tk 185- Tk 190 on Sunday, he stated.
Akash (single name), a vendor at Mohammadpur Krishi Market, said newly -harvested onion was selling at Tk 36-Tk 37 per kg a the wholesale level on Monday which was Tk 32-Tk 33 on Sunday.
Imported Indian onion was selling at Tk 45-Tk 46 per kg at wholesale level today which was Tk 40-Tk 42 yesterday, he said.
The wholesale price of imported garlic was reported to be Tk 115 on Monday.
Imported ginger was selling at Tk 108 a kg at the wholesale level on Monday, said vendor Akash.
Items such as flour, edible oil and sugar witnessed no remarkable change, meaning that the previous higher level of prices continued on Monday.
This correspondent was also told that prices of brinjals, pumpkins, bitter gourd, pointed gourd, newly harvested potatoes and green chilli remained steady in the past few days.
A vegetable vendor, Faruk (single name), claimed that prices of almost all vegetables remained unchanged on Monday.
The wholesale price of cauliflower and bean was Tk 25 and Tk 30- 35 respectively on Monday, he said.
The new potato was selling at Tk 16-Tk 17 a kg at the wholesale level, vendor Faruk added.
Jubayer Hossain, a wholesaler at Mohammadpur Krishi Market, said the prices of flour, edible oil, sugar and lentils remained high.
