The apparel manufacturers' trade body- BGMEA - on Thursday urged Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) to immediately repair the nearby rundown roads of the BGMEA Complex in Uttara of the city to facilitate smooth movement of the public.
Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) placed the demand when a delegation led by its president Faruque Hassan met Rajuk Chairman ABM Amin Ullah Nuri at the latter's office in the city, said a statement.
The BGMEA leaders also called for removing all illegal roadside structures in the area for the sake of trouble-free vehicular and pedestrian movement.
BGMEA Vice President Shahidullah Azim, Vice President Md Nasir Uddin and directors Tanvir Ahmed and Md Imranur Rahman were present during the meeting.
"BGMEA serves the RMG industry which is now the power-house of Bangladesh's economy," Mr Hassan said.
BGMEA provides important services to the export-oriented garment factories, including the issuance of UD, and a large number of officials from different garment factories travel to the BGMEA headquarters (HQ) at Uttara every day for official purposes, he added.
But the dilapidated roads connecting the BGMEA Complex make their journey troublesome.
The statement, quoting the Rajuk chairman, said Mr Nuri assured them of all necessary measures to repair the roads and remove illegal structures from the area in next two months in order to improve road communication.
