The Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) will develop the water supply system at Purbachal, the biggest planned township in the country, under the public-private partnership (PPP) arrangement by 2019.
RAJUK opened the financial offer of the qualified bidder for the Purbachal water supply project on July 11 last, according to a press statement.
RAJUK in collaboration with the PPP Authority under the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), has taken an initiative to involve the private sector in this project to ensure transparency and quality of work.
The International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Mott MacDonald were appointed as advisers and consultants.
Chinese water project developer United Water has been found to be the responsive bidder with a local joint-venture (JV) partner to implement the project, the statement added.
The water supply project has been in the planning stage for several years. It will attract a significant amount of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) which will be required to build and maintain the water network.
The private company will be responsible for maintenance of the network for 15 years.
Rapid implementation of this long-awaited project will ensure safe drinking water to the residents of Purbachal within the next year.
Rajuk has already allotted 25,000 residential plots and the owners are expecting availability of utility services in time.
