Railway signs MoU with Hyundai to buy 70 locomotives

Bangladesh Railway has signed an agreement with Korean Hyundai Rotem for procuring 70 meter gauge locomotives.

Project Director Abdul Matin Chowdhury and Director of Global Rail Hyundai Rotem Kwang-Kwun Yoon signed the deal on behalf of their respective sides at Railway Bhaban in the capital on Wednesday, reports BSS.

Railway Minister M Mazibul Hoque was present at the signing ceremony as the chief guest. The minister in his speech said the government has undertaken various projects to procure engines to make the railway modern mode of transportation.”

“This is an important agreement for Bangladesh Railway as the railway would be able to operate more trains on different routes across the country and earn additional revenue after the procurement of the locomotives,” he said.

President and Chief Executive Officer of the company Seung Tack Kim, railways secretary M Mofazzal Hossain, director general of Bangladesh Railway M Kazi Rafiqul Alam and officials concerned were present.
