Prices of essentials rise up to 200pc in city markets

Prices of commodities, especially vegetables and fishes, have increased for 40 to 200 per cent at different kitchen markets in Dhaka city today due to the ongoing countrywide transport strike started yesterday.

Green chilli is being sold at Tk 200-220 per kg, which was Tk 80-100 yesterday.

Bean is being sold at Tk 180-200 per kg, which was  Tk 80-100 yesterday,

Pointed gourd is being sold at Tk 60-70 per kg, which was Tk 40-50 yesterday.

Brinjal is being sold at Tk 60-70, which was Tk 40-50 yesterday.

Papaya is being sold at Tk 30-40, which was Tk 15-20 yesterday.

Ridge gourd is being sold at Tk 60-80, which was Tk 40-50 yesterday.

Leafy vegetables have also seen a price rise of 200 per cent as they are being sold at Tk 18-30  an amount which was Tk 6-10 yesterday.

Prices of fishes have also risen significantly.

Cultured fishes like pangash, koi, rui, katla are being sold today at a price, up by 30-40 per cent per kg, from yesterday, while riverine fishes have seen a rise of 60-80 per cent peg kg from yesterday.

Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation started its 48 hour strike from 6:00am yesterday, affecting the supply chain of commodities in the capital as elsewhere in the country.
