Prices of some vegetables like brinjal, tomatoes, papayas and bitter gourd have witnessed a rise at kitchen markets in the capital on Saturday amid the escalating prices of essential commodities, adding woes to common people.
However, prices of broiler, layer, and Pakistani and Sonali chickens saw a decline compared to the last week’s prices. The price of red eggs remains the same.
Prices of green chillies, pointed gourd, potatoes and local cucumbers saw the same prices compared to the last week’s prices.
On the other hand, prices of local onions, ginger and garlic also remain steady at both the retail and wholesale levels.
The prices of almost all the daily essentials are still very high, according to traders and consumers.
All kinds of toiletries followed the same price level maintaining the previous hike.
Broiler chicken was selling at Tk 148 kg at the wholesale level on Saturday, Rasel (single name), a salesman at New Bismillah Broiler at Mohammadpur Krishi Market, told The Financial Express (FE).
Layer chicken was selling at Tk 225 a kg at the wholesale level today (Saturday) while it was Tk 228 last week, he said, adding that the price of the red egg was Tk 93 a dozen at the wholesale level.
Both Pakistani and Sonali chickens were selling at Tk 260 a kg each which was Tk 270 a kg last week, he added.
The retail price of broiler chicken was reported to be Tk 153-Tk 159 a kg on Saturday, according to the Department of Agriculture Marketing (DAM).
Price of the red egg was Tk 33-Tk 34 a dozen, it added.
Akash (single name), a vendor at Mohammadpur Krishi Market, said local onions were selling at Tk 22-Tk 23 per kg at the wholesale level for a week.
Imported ginger was selling at Tk 65 a kg at the wholesale level which was the same a week ago, Akash stated.
Imported Chinese variety of ginger was selling at Tk 100 which was the same as a week ago, he added.
This correspondent saw that prices of brinjal and tomatoes saw a hike by Tk 10 per kg and Tk 5.0 per kg respectively.
The prices of papayas and bitter gourd witnessed a hike by Tk 2-.0-Tk 3.0 and Tk 5.0 respectively.
A vegetable vendor, Faruk (single name), claimed that the prices of almost all vegetables remained unchanged on Saturday, maintaining the previous hike.
