Fair price shop `Pmart Vorsha Store' has been opened recently at Mahmud Group for the garment workers in Gazipur.
Approximately 15,000 workers of the group will get up to 10 per cent discount at the shop, launched by Pmart, a subsidiary company of Prefeex Limited, said a statement.
The move came in the pandemic to help the ready-made garment (RMG) workers who are playing a crucial role in spearheading the country’s economic growth.
Rafee Mahmood, Director Mahmud Group, Helal Islam, Head of HR, Admin and Compliance of Mahmud Group, Rifat Yasin, Co-CEO of Pmart, Riadul Hasan Head of Operations of Pmart were present at the inaugural programme.
Pmart aims to open such outlets at all factories across Bangladesh by initially launching 10 more stores within next year, the statement added.
Mr Yasin, CO-CEO of Pmart said, `It is quite difficult for garments workers, especially for female workers and mothers, to commute and work in the lockdown and manage enough time to buy essential items.”
“As the pandemic situation is deteriorating, the country is under strict lockdown measures with limited business hours for shops”.
Besides, the price hike of essentials is a big burden for the low-middle income people.
Considering all these, Pmart reached out to some large and medium manufacturers with our idea, he said.
Pmart Bhorosha Store aims to keep stores open as per the workers convenient timing, build economic and socially sustainable solutions for better living standards for the general low-middle income working population of the country.
Workers can pay using Mobile Financial Services, such as bKash or Nagad, it added.
Pmart claims to have joined hands with over 140 brands to procure high-quality goods at affordable prices for the low-middle income working population of the country.
Rafee Mahmood, director of Mahmud Group said, `We believe with such initiatives like P-mart Bhorosha Stores will be able to effectively save our facilities from the risk of covid-19 spread.”
