Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday asked the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) to strictly maintain the environmental issues while establishing industries in the country's economic zones.
"You've to strictly maintain the obligations and standards regarding the environment while establishing industries in the economic zones," she said while addressing the 6th meeting of the BEZA Governing Council held at her office in the city.
PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meeting.
The Prime Minister, who is also the BEZA Governing Council chairperson, said the government has a plan to construct a marine driveway from Mirsarai to Chattogram city.
She asked the Beza authorities to keep a provision of having adequate water bodies and effluent treatment plants (ETPs) in every industrial zone.
Sheikh Hasina called for creating artificial mangrove forests around the industrial zones in the coastal region to protect the areas from cyclone, tidal surge and other natural disasters, reports UNB.
Beza Executive Chairman Paban Chowdhury made a presentation on the BEZA activities and progress of the implementation of the decisions taken in the 5th Governing Council meeting held in January 2017.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed and Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, among others, were present at the meeting.
