Planning Minister MA Mannan on Thursday called upon the entrepreneurs to invest in solar energy, saying it will be the key source for power in future.
“Now, the important areas of the villages across the country are being illuminated through solar street lights. Besides, solar power generation is increasing rapidly through government’s initiatives,” he said.
The minister was speaking as the chief guest at a conference on “Role of Renewable Energy to Build My Village, My Town” at Hotel Intercontinental in the city.
Bangladesh Solar and Renewable Energy Association (BSREA) organized the conference.
Private Industry and Investment Adviser to the Prime Minister, Salman Fazlur Rahman, attended the conference as the special guest while Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA) Chairman and Additional Secretary of the Power Division M Helal Uddin and Executive Director of Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) Mahmood Malik were present as the guest of honour.
Managing Director of Vitti Sthapati Brindo Iqbal Habib delivered a key note speech at the conference.
Mannan said as the country’s technology and education are moving forward, the people of the villages will also transform themselves.
“Our villages will become towns soon. There is no disagreement or controversy. The government has been accelerating this transformation,” he added.
Salman Fazlur Rahman said my village or my town can be thought as an environment friendly and sustainable development model. Through this, it will be possible to bring many facilities of the city to the villages, he added, reports BSS.
