As Bangladesh is moving fast through a transition era of rapid economic progress and full-phase digitisation, smart ICT services will be a paramount catalyst; particularly in Chattogram, the commercial capital of the country.
This view was expressed in a panel session held in Chattogram on Saturday titled “Advancing Chattogram Through Smart ICT Services”, organized by Grameenphone as part of “Chattogram IT Fair 2019”. The fair has been jointly organized by Society of Chittagong IT Professionals and Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Michael Foley, Chief Executive Officer of Grameenphone, presented the keynote paper at the start of the session. He highlighted on different perspectives regarding the role of disruption and innovation in the 4th industrial revolution. This was followed by an informative panel session attended by leaders from the ICT sector, academics and the youth from Chattogram.
Michael Foley stated, “Bringing Chattogram in the center of the digitization movement will prove constructive not only for the economy of the country, it will also be an encouraging factor for the future investors; both national and international. The policy makers of the country and the city, the business entities and the citizens of this port metropolitan should be proactive to make the process faster.”
Mahbubul Alam CIP, President of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Mahmud Hossain, Chief Business Officer of Grameenphone; Hasan Rahman Ratan, Managing Director of DataSoft Manufacturing & Assembly Ltd; Dr. Mohammed Moshiul Hoque, Professor of CSE in CUET & Vice Chair, IEEE Bangladesh and Shimon Mehzabeen, Chairperson of CUET IEEE Women in Engineering Group spoke in the panel session.
Earlier in the day, Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Education Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury MP inaugurated the three days long “Chittagong IT Fair 2019”. He had a visit across the exhibition including the Grameenphone stall showcasing smart ICT services, and appreciated some impactful services being developed by Grameenphone in collaboration with local ICT companies.
