Outbound travel spending jumps by 30.63pc in July-March

Spending for outbound travels from the country during the first nine months of the current fiscal year jumped by 30.63 per cent over the same period of the past fiscal.

Central bank statistics, released last week, showed that travellers going abroad spent at least US$511.40 million in July-March period of FY18, which was $391.5 million in the same period of FY17.

The spending was recorded on the basis of purchasing the foreign currency for the foreign travel purpose.

At the same time, the country earned $270.80 million during the period under review due to expenditures borne by the foreign travellers.

The earnings from the inbound travel was $ 222.70 million in July-March period of the past fiscal year.
