No container crisis at Chittagong port, says Authority

CHATTOGRAM: The Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) said Chittagong port and off-docks are not facing any container crisis right now.

Omar Faruk, secretary at the CPA, alleged that some newspapers are spreading misinformation about the container status at Chittagong port and off-docks.

"The operational activities of Chittagong seaport are quite normal till Thursday. Now we need two-week time to connect with mother vessels."

The outbreak of the coronavirus has caused such a delay, he said, adding that there are 40,000 TEUs containers at Chittagong port.

Mr. Faruk also said: "It is observed that there is no common carrier agreement and container direct interchange among the main line operators (MLOs) and feeder operators (FOs)."

The coordination among the feeder and main line operators may ease the current crisis of outbound cargoes, he said, adding that the common carrier agreement can be implemented among the feeder operators and main line operators.
