Nine business firms were honoured for excellence in their performance at the '2nd HSBC Business Excellence Awards' instituted by the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited in Bangladesh.
The businesses entities from different sectors received the accolades for their unmatched leadership and outstanding contribution in promoting Bangladesh and enabling sustainable growth in the national economy even during the current challenging time.
The award ceremony was held in partnership with the Ministry of Commerce and the British High Commission in the city on Sunday.
The award recipients are Pacific Jeans Group for export excellence in readymade garments (RMG) sector; Envoy Textiles for export excellence in supply chain and backward linkage; PRAN-RFL Group for export excellence in non-traditional and emerging sectors; Hatil Complex Ltd. for best performance in import substitution; Summit Corporation Ltd. for leadership in inbound investment and infrastructure; Malek Spinning Group for excellence in sustainability; and BiBEAT for best performance in innovation & technology while special achievement award went to City Group and the Jury Award to Surokkha App.
Speaking as the chief guest at the award distribution ceremony, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said that at the beginning of Covid- 19, the country faced risk of losing business due to lockdown and restrictions regarding international trade.
He added the government implemented friendly policies so that companies could import medicines and other protective equipment for Covid-19 easily.
"We also took many major initiatives to protect our industries," he said.
He said HSBC's Business Excellence Awards is well aligned with the government's intention to recognise successful businesses and entrepreneurs that have significantly contributed to the country's growth.
State Minister for Information and Communications Technology Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak said ICT division has been actively working to implement the national strategy for building 'Digital Bangladesh' with vision to expand and diversify the use of ICTs to establish a transparent, responsive and accountable government, develop skilled human resources, ensure cost-effective delivery of citizen-services through public-private partnerships and build e-government in Bangladesh.
He thanked HSBC for taking such initiative to recognise the business entities for their contribution to the development of the nation and drive the economy into graduating to a middle-income state.
British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Robert Chatterton Dickson as special guest said, "I am delighted that the British High Commission is once more able to join HSBC in honouring the best of Bangladeshi business as part of the Business Excellence Awards initiative."
Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Bangladesh Md Mahbub ur Rahman congratulated the winners and said, "Businesses and Entrepreneurs in Bangladesh have been resilient during the pandemic and fueling the economic growth of Bangladesh.
"We are proud to recognise and encourage them for their perseverance and hard work," he added.
Md Jashim Uddin, president of the FBCCI, and Kevin Green, country head of Wholesale Banking, HSBC Bangladesh, were also present at the event.
