NBR suggests AMTOB to go for ADR

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has suggested mobile phone operators to go for Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)  for quick settlement of cases relating to revenue arrears.

The NBR made the suggestion during a pre-budget discussion with members of the Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB) in Dhaka on Monday, reports BSS.

During the meeting, NBR Chairman Md Mosharrraf Hossain Bhuiyan requested them to clear revenue arrears.

"We are suggesting everybody to go for ADR for settlement of cases. As we're deprived of revenue, you're also facing problem in running business due to the pending cases," he said.

According to the NBR, the NBR will get Taka 10.00 billion arrears from the mobile telephone operators.

Meanwhile, AMTOB members demanded withdrawal of Value Added Tax (VAT) on internet completely in the next budget.

"If VAT is withdrawn, it will have an important impact on the socioeconomic development of the country," they said.

AMTOB also proposed to cut corporate tax and withdraw double tax system.

In reply, NBR chairman said, "Let's sit with us separately ... reasonable proposals will be considered positively."

Earlier, the NBR also held pre-budget meeting separately with Bangladesh Ceramic Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BCMEA) and Bangladesh Beverage Manufacturers Association.

BCMEA leaders demanded withdrawal of 15 per cent VAT at production level to protect the local ceramics producers.

They also demanded reduction of duty on raw materials for ceramic industry.
