National SME fair kicks off in city

The National SME Products Fair 2019 has kicked off in the capital aiming to promote products in the local and international markets.

Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun inaugurated the seven-day fair as the Chief Guest at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) on Saturday.

Chairperson of Small & Medium Enterprise Foundation (SME Foundation) KM Habib Ullah chaired the function.

State Minister for Industries Kamal Ahmed Mojumder and Secretary Md Abdul Halim were present at the inaugural ceremony as the special guests.

The SME Foundation is organising the event for the seventh time.

A total of 280 SME entrepreneurs, consisting of 188 women and 92 men, is selling and showcasing their products like jute goods, agriculture, food and leather products, electronic and electrical items.

Apart from this, the entrepreneurs are showcasing light engineering products, handicrafts, plastic and synthetics items, and information technology, design and fashion products.

To promote the SME entrepreneurs and SME products, the foundation will arrange four seminars--Non-Financial Barriers Facing the SME Women Entrepreneurs, Relationship Banking for Sustainable Finance: SME Foundation Experience, Intellectual Property Rights for Growth of SMEs, and Opportunities of E-Commerce for the SMEs in Bangladesh.

The fair will remain open for all from 10:00am to 8:00pm. There will be no entry fee.
