Government has undertaken a plan to construct warehouse having a capacity of 10,000 tonnes food-grains in the regional offices of the Bangladesh Trading Corporation (TCB).
The plan is initially for Chittagong, Rangpur and Molvibazar regional offices of the TCB, said Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed.
He said this on Monday while replying to a question from treasury bench member Bazlul Haque Harun of Jhalakathi-1 in the Jatiya Sangsad.
"We have already prepared draft papers for the plan," the minister said.
BSS also quoted him as saying that the TCB has godowns for food-grains at Tejgaon having a capacity of 4,872 tonnes, at Nedapa of Narayanganj with 2,208-tonne capacity and in Chittagong having 8,000-tonne capacity.
He added, "We have more godowns across the country having capacity of 10,586 tonnes on rental basis.”
Of those, Khulna has 1,666 tonnes, Rajshahi 1,320 tonnes, Rangpur 2,000 tonnes, Barisal 2,400 tonnes, Moulvibazar 1,600 tonnes and Mymensingh having 1,600-tonne capacity warehouses.
