CHATTOGRAM: Thailand will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) to set up a sea route between the two countries.

It was revealed as the new ambassador of Thailand to Bangladesh Mrs Makawadee Sumitmor held a meeting with the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) at its World Trade Centre (WTC) hall room on Thursday evening.

Addressing the meeting, the new envoy mentioned the good and friendly relationship between Bangladesh and Thailand.

She said, "We have a goal to increase opportunities for more investment and trade among the two countries. We can increase these by increasing economical cooperation. I urge CCCI to realise the FTA."

She said, "Thai authority will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) for setting up a sea route between Thailand and Bangladesh. Now, the Thai government imposes only one week's quarantine for Bangladeshi tourists in Thailand instead of two weeks. We will arrange a Road Show at WTC of CCCI to celebrate the 50 years of friendship of Thailand and Bangladesh next year."

She also said, "The private sector's intimacy may also help develop the cooperation among both the countries. The communication system should be upgraded to develop the relationship between the two friendly countries."

The meeting was chaired by CCCI chief Mahabubul Alam.

Among others, former president of CCCI Amir Humayun Mahamud Chowdhury, Vice President Sayed Mohammed Tanvir and CEO of Bangladesh Center of Excellence Wasfi Tamim were present.

CCCI Directors Anjan Shekhor Das and Engineer Iftekhar Hossain addressed the meeting while directors Md Ahid Seraj Chowdhury Swapon, A K M Akter Hossain, Jahirul Islam Chowdhury Alamgir, Md Omar Faruque, Shahajada Md Foujul Alef Khan, Najmul Karim Chowdhury Sharoon, Md Iftekhar Foisal, Tanvir Mostafa Chowdhury and S M Tahasin Jonaied were also present.

Besides, Minister Councillors of Royal Thai Embassy to Bangladesh Panom Thongprayoon, Khemathat Archawathamrong, Duansib Padmasundara Cullen, Second Secretary Kusuma Sareebunyarit, Third Secretary Budsara Sadaengrit, PS to the envoy Warasan Binte Israil, administrative officer Sunviraz Hassan Niloy were also present at the meeting.
