Prices of loose soybean oil, newly-harvested onion, broiler chickens and both varieties of chickens --Pakistani and Sonali saw a price hike in Dhaka city’s kitchen markets at the weekend.
Almost all essential commodities remained static in the markets, maintaining the previous hike.
Prices of red eggs, and Pakistani and Sonali chickens remained static today (Friday) compared to last Friday, maintaining the previous hike while all kinds of toiletries followed the same price level.
The prices of almost all the daily essentials are still high, according to the traders and consumers.
All kinds of vegetables witnessed the same prices both in wholesale and retail levels, said vegetable traders, vendors and consumers.
Jubayer Hossain, a wholesaler at Mohammadpur Krishi Market, told The Financial Express (FE) that loose soybean oil was selling at Tk 155 per kg while it was Tk 152-Tk 153 per kg last week.
All other daily essentials like sugar, salt, toiletries and other spices remained the same, he added.
Broiler chicken was selling at Tk 145 per kg whereas it was Tk 135 per kg last week, Rasel (single name), a salesman at New Bismillah Broiler at Mohammadpur Krishi Market, told FE.
Pakistani and Sonali chicken was selling at Tk 250 a kg which was Tk 245 a kg last week, he said, adding that layer, Pakistani and Sonali chicken were selling at Tk 220 at wholesale level.
Price of the red egg was Tk 105-Tk 110 a dozen at the retail level, he added.
Without citing any specific reason, Jubayer Hossain also said the market has been very volatile recently.
The prices of flour, edible oil, sugar and imported lentils remained high, according to him.
Akash (single name), a vendor at Mohammadpur Krishi Market, said the newly-harvested onions were selling at Tk 25-Tk 26 per kg at the wholesale level whereas it the price was Tk 22-Tk 23 last Friday.
Imported ginger was selling at Tk 108 a kg at the wholesale level, he added.
This correspondent saw that prices of brinjals, pumpkins, bitter gourd, pointed gourd, newly harvested potatoes and green chilli remained steady today compared to last Friday.
A vegetable vendor, Faruk (single name), claimed that the prices of almost all vegetables remained unchanged on Friday.
The wholesale prices of cauliflowers and beans were Tk 25 per piece and Tk 30-Tk 35 per kg respectively on Friday.
The newly-harvested diamond variety of potato was selling at Tk 10-Tk 11 a kg at the wholesale level while the red tomato at Tk 14-Tk 15 at the wholesale level, he added.
The wholesale level of green chili was selling at Tk 20-Tk 25 per kg, he said.
Radish was selling at Tk 15-Tk 18 per kg at the wholesale level, Rasel said.
Red tomatoes and bean were selling at Tk 15-Tk Tk 20 per kg and Tk 25-Tk 35 per kg respectively at wholesale levels, he said.
Brinjal (round and white colour) was selling at Tk 25-Tk 30 per kg at wholesale price, Faruk added.
