Two females are going to emerge as the first metro train operator and station controller of the Mass Rapid Transit line-6 as the country's first metro rail is likely to start operation partially in the city (Uttara-Agargaon segment) in December.
Moriom Afiza and Asma Akhtar returned home recently after receiving training as train operator and station controller respectively of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL).
They were among 15 participants who took part in the second-batch training under a project titled "The Project on Technical Assistance for Mass Rapid Transit Safety Management System of MRT Line-6".
Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) supported the training for the DMTCL staff.
According to the JICA, 15 participants took part in the training in Japan from October 25 to November 1 on Safety Management System (SMS).
With the support of Osaka Metro, a prominent MRT operator in Japan, they learnt various safety-related aspects, including how to operate the first MRT in Bangladesh, following the Japanese system and safety rules.
The project was started in January 2021 under a joint venture between NIPPON KOEI and Osaka Metro Services Technical Assistance Project aiming to transfer knowledge of Safety Management System on MRT operation, and secure passenger safety similar to that in Japan for DMTCL, says JICA press release.
"We have to follow the rules and regulations for the safety management system, implement safety actions such as 'pointing and calling' and abide by the safety policy for making a safe transport system," said Moriom Afiza after the training.
In her comment, Asma laid importance on improving safety transportation system, especially in safety policy, pointing and calling to apply in MRT 6, and said for to ensure safety, continuous monitoring during daily work is a must.
