A month-long ‘Heritage Handloom Festival-2020’ will kick off on Wednesday in Dhaka aimed at promoting local handloom products and protecting the extinction of traditional items.
However, considering the coronavirus (Covid-19) crisis, the festival will be organised though a digital platform this time.
The SME Foundation and Association of Fashion Designers of Bangladesh (AFDB) are jointly organising the festival for the third time.
Education Minister Dipu Moni is expected to inaugurate the festival as the chief guest with Md Masudur Rahman, chairperson of the SME foundation, in the chair on Wednesday.
The announcement came at a press conference at the SME Foundation headquarters in the capital on Tuesday.
Managing Director of SME Foundation Md Shafiqul Islam presented the different aspects of the fair at the function.
A seminar styled Technology for preserving heritage: skills enhancement and E-Commerce for cottage industry will be arranged at 5:00 pm on October 30 on digital platform.
Entrepreneurs and designers in 60 stalls will showcase traditional and heritage products which will be brought from different regions of the country.
The products of 15 sectors are jute products, Jamdani, Khadi, Sirajganj Handloom, Rajshahi Silk,Cane and Bamboo, folkart, Nakshi Kantha, Mirpur benarasi, Tangail Taant, Sirajgonj Taant (Lungi, Gamcha, Sarees), Rangamati Handloom and Monipuri Handloom.
