MoC urged to issue imported MOP clearance permit

The Ministry of Commerce (MoC) has been requested to issue necessary clearance permits for 7,539 tonnes of imported MOP (Muriate of Potash) fertiliser urgently so that the essential agriculture input could be made available to the farmers timely, sources said.

The Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) made the recommendation in a recent letter to the MoC, as M/s Fariha Trading imported 7539.65 tonnes of the fertiliser under a government's subsidy plan.

According to the letter, the MoC did not issue the permit although it had issued the same for other fertiliser consignments timely.

The MoA pointed out that fertiliser is an important and sensitive item, and ensuring supply of fertiliser is a big challenge in the present global context.

It expressed the fear that non-issuance of the permit timely might create multiple problems as it would not be possible to supply the MOP to the farmers' level as and when necessary.

"We have taken a decision to issue the permit," said an official.
