Benapole port on Thursday launched a new mobile scanner with a view to controlling tax evasion as well as to check imported goods faster.
The customs authority has made the scanning mandatory for a total of 38 products, reports UNB.
A letter sign by Benapole Customs Commissioner Belal Ahmed was sent to the port authority, cargo handling branches, clearing and forwarding agents and other businessmen in the afternoon.
The mobile scanner was set up for the cost of Tk 50 million which will provide detailed report of the goods.
The system was implemented to control the tax evasion as well as the government will be able to collect more taxes, said Joint Customs Commissioner Ahasanul Haque Khan.
The taxation process will be faster and more accurate due to the use of the mobile scanner, he opined.
