Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Wednesday urged China to invest in Bangladesh, especially in the blue economy.
“There are ample opportunities of investment in marine fisheries sector and maritime technology,” the minister said while Chinese Ambassador called on him.
Mr Kamal said blue economy is a vast area where Chinese public companies can invest and exploit the natural resources including fisheries and minerals.
Chinese Ambassador in Bangladesh Mr Zhang Zuo called on Planning Minister Mr Kamal at latter’s office in Dhaka, the ministry’s information officer Mr Gazi Towhidul Islam said.
The Minister asked the Ambassador to facilitate bringing more investments in different special economic zones (SEZs) in Bangladesh.
They had long conversation on different economic and development issues including foreign direct investment (FDI), project financing and trade.
Ambassador Zhang Zuo said several companies are eager to come to Bangladesh for investing in different potential area, such as fisheries, agro-processing, footwear, processed food, readymade garments etc.
He further added that recently a Chinese company has showed their interest to invest in steel sector in Bangladesh.
