Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar on Wednesday heavily criticised the inconsistencies in data packages, particularly fixing the time limit, offered by the mobile-phone operators.
"I get a lot of complaints against the services of mobile phone operators, especially about the time limit of data packages," he told the inaugural session of a workshop on Bangladesh Broadband Policy 2022, organised by BTRC in the city.
He asked the operators to be thoughtful in determining the data packages keeping in view the satisfaction of the people, and the compliance with the rules and regulations of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).
Speaking as the chief guest, the minister pointed out that the people are not getting the benefits of 4G though most of the operators have expanded the 4G networks in most parts of the country.
It is the time to formulate a broadband policy that would be suitable for the Fifth Industrial Revolution (5IR) and based on the views of all stakeholders and experts, he said.
He directed the stakeholders concerned to formulate a broadband policy to be tailored to the needs of the people consistent with the possible changes in digital technology by the year 2041.
Bangladesh should go for a blended education system before going entirely digitalised, he added.
BTRC Chairman Shyam Sundar Sikder presided over the function and Secretary of the Department of Posts and Telecommunications Md. Khalilur Rahman addressed the function as a special guest.
Anju Mangal, Asia Pacific Head of Alliance for Affordable Internet, Anir Chowdhury, Policy Advisor of A2I, and Latifa Jamal, Professor of Dhaka University, also spoke on the occasion.
BTRC Director General Brigadier General Nasim Parvez presented the keynote paper.
