The government is building a skilled workforce according to the demand of overseas market in the post-coronavirus period, said Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmad on Wednesday.
He was speaking as the chief guest at a programme, organised by Bangladesh Overseas Employment and Services Limited (BOESL) on the occasion of the 'International Migrants Day-2020' at the Probashi Kallyan Bhaban in the capital.
The minister said a technical training centre is underway in Manikganj with a view to creating demand based workers to meet international requirements in the post-Covid period, according to a press release issued by the ministry.
He also said they are working for the wellbeing of returnee migrant workers and their families.
In future, his ministry will also take further initiative to support the workers, Imran mentioned.
Mr Ahmad underlined the need for taking a concerted initiative from all relevant stakeholders for the development of the sector.
BOESL Managing Director Saiful Hasan Badal presided over the programme where Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA) President Benjir Ahmed MP was the special guest and Secretary of expatriates' welfare ministry Ahmed Munirus Saleheen, among others, were present.
Officials of stakeholders including International Organization for Migration (IOM), Ovibashi Karmi Unnayan Program (OKUP), Bangladesh Nari Sramik Kendro (BNSK), WARBE Development Foundation, Bangladeshi Ovhibashi Mohila Sramik Association (BOMSA) and Refugee and Migratory Movements Research Unit (RMMRU) made power point presentations about their work on the migration sector in Bangladesh at the event.
