All kind of milk prices increased notably on Saturday raising the woes of the consumers.
State-owned Milk Vita has revised its liquid pasteurised milk price to Tk 75 a litre from Tk 70.
Subsequently, the company has also raised the prices of both low and high-fat milk to Tk 40 from Tk 35-38.
Quarter litre pack of milk price has been fixed at Tk 25.
Considering a quarter-litre pack, prices of the commodity has been increased by maximum 25 per cent in the retail market.
Powdered milk prices also increased by Tk 20-30 per kg in the last two days.
Sources said increased production costs, as well as a rise in import costs, have caused the hike in the price.
According to Milk Vita, it supplies 125,000-150,000 litres of liquid pasteurised milk every day, which comprises to 40-45 per cent of market share.
Currently, the domestic production of milk is 9.8 million tonnes against a demand for 15 million tonnes in the country.
The country also imports 125,000-140,000 tonnes of powdered milk to meet the shortfall.
