Dhaka metro rail company is set to open Pallabi station as a new stop of the MRT-6 today (Wednesday) in a move to gradually make all the nine stations from Uttara to Agargaon operable in next two months.
Sources said the next stop of Mass Rapid Transit Line 6 (MRT-6) is likely to be Mirpur10.
Officials said all preparations to open Pallabi station have been completed with the new timetable from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm.
However, gates of all three stations - Uttara North, Pallabi and Agargaon -- will be opened at 8:00am to start train operation from 8:30 am.
Similarly no passengers will be allowed to enter any station after 12 noon to ensure operation of the last train at 12:30 pm, they added.
Since the trial commercial operation of MRT-6 began on December 29, Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has been operating train between Uttara and Agargaon with highest 200 passengers in each trip.
The passenger limit has already been withdrawn shortly after the inauguration, which, the company claims, has been done due to increase in the passenger dealing ability.
Company Secretary Abdul Rouf said on average 8,000 passengers use MRT daily, which rises up to 13,000 to 14,000 on weekend.
