The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), a platform of global businesses, elected Maria Fernanda Garza as its chair for a two-year term from July 01, 2022 to June 30, 2024.
She has become the first ever woman chair of the ICC, headquartered in Paris of France, according to a press release issued by ICC Bangladesh.
Ms Garza was elected ICC chair unanimously at its 212th World Council held on June 14 in Mexico City, Mexico.
A Mexican entrepreneur, Ms Garza is the CEO of Orestia, a plastics manufacturing company, and also the First Vice-Chair of ICC's current board.
She also served as the chair of ICC Mexico from 2014 to 2020.
The Council also elected Philippe Varin as the First Vice-Chair of ICC; and Professor Dr Nayla Comair-Obeid and Harsh Pati Singhania as the vice chairs of ICC.
ICC Bangladesh President Mahbubur Rahman, Vice President A K Azad and Secretary General Ataur Rahman attended the council virtually.
