Manmohan Parkash has been appointed as the Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) new Country Director for its Bangladesh resident mission.

Parkash, as the Country Director, will oversee the implementation of the ADB Country Partnership Strategy for Bangladesh (2016-2020), said an ADB press release on Thursday.

According to a UNB report, the release said the new ABD boss, in pursuing ADB's mission of reducing poverty through inclusive economic growth, environmentally sustainable growth, and regional integration, will also lead the policy dialogue with the government counterparts, civil society and other partners.

"Bangladesh has made significant socio-economic progress in recent years, and is well positioned to graduate to the next level of growth and development," said Parkash.

"I'm looking forward to working for the people of Bangladesh in collaboration with the Government, development partners, and other stakeholders." he added.

Parkash, an Indian national with more than 32 years of professional experience, assumed his new position on 15 November 2017.

He succeeds Kazuhiko Higuchi, who went on retirement in early November.

Prior to this assignment, Parkash, who joined ADB in 2002, was Advisor for ADB's Operations Services and Financial Management Department, and Head for the bank's Operations Management Unit.

He has extensive experience in project implementation and administration, as well as strong operational knowledge of ADB policies and procedures.

He provided strategic advice and support to various ADB-wide initiatives, including the midterm review of ADB's Strategy 2020 implementation, ICT overhauling project, and ADB's Strategy 2030.

Parkash also has wide experiences in transport development in East Asia, Central Asia, and South Asia, covering reforms, restructuring, and institutional development.
