Lockdown won't hamper infrastructure project implementation

Work of ongoing field-level projects, including mega projects, will continue during the nationwide lockdown beginning today (Wednesday).

Both the road transport and bridges minister and the railways minister, in separate meetings, gave directions to this end on Tuesday.

In a virtual meeting with Roads and Highways Department, road transport minister Obaidul Quader asked the engineers to complete the work before the start of monsoon maintaining health guidelines, taking the advantage of free road during the lockdown.

Railways minister Nurul Islam Sujon said no restrictions would be applicable on the Bangladesh Railway's work like Padma Rail Link project and Bangabandhu Railway Bridge project if they carry on the work in respective restricted areas maintaining health safety norms.

Both the ministries have been implementing a good number of fast-track projects to develop road and rail infrastructure in the country. They include Padma Multipurpose Bridge, Padma Rail Link, Bangabandhu Railway Bridge, Mass Rapid Transit Line-6 and 1 and Chattogram-Cox's Bazar Rail Line projects.
