Labour leaders of the country's readymade garment sector have again called on all agitating workers to join their work and continue the production activities peacefully.

They also assured that the labour federations would extend all-out support to resolve any issue after the national election scheduled to be held on December 30.

More than a dozen of labour federations made the appeal at a press conference held on Monday at the National Press Club in the city.

The call came a day after Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments held a meeting with the labour leaders to find the reasons behind ongoing labour unrest over the wage issue.

The issue has raised concern among relevant government agencies over further spread of such agitation ahead of the national election.

Amirul Haque Amin, president of National Garments Workers Federation, said they observed that workers of some factories have been staging demo outside their factories over the wage issue since December 10 keeping the production suspended.

"Individuals or group of workers might have objections over the new wage structure. But being responsible right organisations, we can't support any scattered unrest, indiscipline and work abstention before getting the new wage before January," he noted while reading out a written statement.

Citing the minister's assurance over the issue, he assured that the federations will address the problems regarding the wage, if any, after discussing it with all stakeholders including the government after the election.

State Minister for Labour Mujibul Haque Chunnu at an emergency meeting on December 15 assured that the government would address inconsistencies, if any, in the new wage structure through discussion with all stakeholders after the polls.
