CHATTOGRAM: The Karnaphuli tunnel project officials have sought more land for the construction of approach road and project service area entrance.

The project authorities would send a letter to the Bridges Authority in Dhaka this week, asking for a lease of 6.51 acres of additional land, sources said.

Earlier on January 14, Deputy Director of the Karnaphuli Tunnel Project Abdur Rahman Tarafdar wrote a letter to the Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram to this end.

In the letter, the project official said 6.51 acres of land from khas khatian Nos. 8 and 41 will be required for the approach road and project service area entrance at the Anwara end of the tunnel.

In a survey report submitted on February 26, Assistant Commissioner of Land Saiduzzaman Chowdhury said that 122 acres of sand-bed are there under these two areas of Tulatoli mouza.

The additional land of 6.51 acres needs to be taken on lease for the project, said Abdur Rahman.

In 2016, the district administration leased out 85.89 acres of land to the tunnel project.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the work of tunnel boring of the Bangabandhu Tunnel under the river Karnaphuli, which will facilitate expansion of trade and industries on the southern bank of the river.
