Kamal seeks higher US investment

Finance Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal has invited increased investment from the United States to Bangladesh.

He made the call when US Ambassador in Dhaka Peter Haas met him at his secretariat office on Sunday.

Mr Kamal noted that the business environment in Bangladesh is "very suitable" and the country is a "perfect place" for making investment, according to a finance ministry statement.

"Bangladesh is no more a development miracle, rather a development role-model for others."

The minister further said Bangladesh is now 41st economy in the world from 60th in 2006. The size of its gross domestic product (GDP) rose four times to US$411 billion during the last 12 years.

Mr Kamal thanked the US for providing vaccines and various types of assistance to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic.

The US envoy commended Bangladesh's economic strength and progress as well as taken measures to face the challenges created due to the pandemic.

He noted that Bangladesh is an attractive place for investment and he would inform it to the US investors, the release added.
