The Bangladesh Jute Goods Exporters Association has sought a 5.0 per cent incentive against exports of different types of diversified jute products.
The demand came at the 48th annual general meeting (AGM) of the association held at Dhaka Club on Saturday.
The AGM was chaired by the newly-elected chairman of BJGEA M Sajjad Hussain Sohel.
A 13-member executive committee has been elected for the financial year 2018-19 and 2019-20.
Mr Sohel said the export market of Bangladeshi diversified jute products has been squeezed in the global market amid tough competition with its counterparts like India.
He said jute goods exporters are adding maximum value to jute products but are deprived of any incentives.
He said that Bangladeshi products could be most competitive had the government provided at least 5.0 per cent incentives on products exported
Some 300 members the association export more than 100 types of jute products across the globe.
Md Lutfor Rahman was made senior vice chairman.
Former chairman of BJGEA Enamul Haque Patwary, among others, were present at the AGM.
