Depicting the deep-rooted relationship between Bangladesh and Japan, a Japanese multinational has organised an art exhibition in the city to pay homage to the friendship.
Japan Tobacco International (JTI) arranged the exhibition titled "Embrace Friendship: Celebrating 50 Years of Japan-Bangladesh Friendship" at Edge Gallery, Bay's Edgewater in the capital's Gulshan-2.
The event was formally inaugurated on Friday. It will remain open to the public from February 26 to March 05.
The exhibition is showcasing 12 commissioned artworks by prominent artist Professor Anisuzzaman Anis, Department of Printmaking, Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka.
Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr A K Abdul Momen sent a pre-recorded video for the inauguration of the exhibition where Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Bangladesh Ito Naoki was present as the special guest.
Mr Naoki congratulated JTI for successfully inaugurating the art event and thanked Prof Anisuzzaman for his paintings.
He said, "The art exhibition, 'Embrace Friendship', is a tribute to the friendship of 50 years between Japan and Bangladesh as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of our diplomatic relations between the two countries."
Neil Coupland, Managing Director at JTI Bangladesh said, "We are proud and honoured to celebrate this important milestone as Japan has been committed to not only the infrastructure and human development of Bangladesh, but also in the areas of education, art, and culture."
