Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakkha (RAJUK) and Malaysian BNG Global Holdings SDN BHD and Consortium have signed an agreement for constructing 13,920 apartments in Jhilmil residential area.
RAJUK Chairman Abdur Rahman and Chief Executive Professor of Malaysian company Sharifa Sabrina signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations at a hotel in the city on Thursday.
Under the agreement, the construction of these flats will be completed within the next four years and the Malaysian company will finance the construction. Under the Public Private Partnership (PPP), this will be one of the largest projects in Asia.
Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain was present as the chief guest while Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal and State Minister for Power and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid were present as special guests at the signing ceremony.
The Housing and public works minister said these flats are being constructed for the middle-class and low-income groups of people, reports BSS.
He said that about 70 thousand flats will be constructed in Purbachal new city project.
The minister said the flats are being constructed in other projects of RAJUK where the modern system for water and sewage disposal system are being developed for ensuring sewerage facilities by setting up bridges and Sewage Treatment Plant (STPs).
Jhilmil Residential is situated on the other bank of the river Buriganga on about 381 acres of land for a projected population of 200,000.
Land, Road Development works have already completed. Three categories-1400, 1600 and 2200 square feet --apartments will be constructed on high rise buildings over 160 acres of land in the new town project.
There will be 9,120 apartments sizing 1400 square metre each will be constructed on 60 twenty story high rise buildings, a total of 2,688 apartments sizing 1,600 square feet each will be constructed on 15 twenty-five story buildings while 2,112 apartments sizing 2,200 square feet each will be constructed on 11 twenty-five story buildings.
Besides, a total of 13,920 parking facilities including mosque, community centres, lake, park, play ground and other options have been kept for those who would reside there.
