The potato farmers in Jhenaidah has harvested a good yield by using the seeds of the Ispahani Agro Limited despite the recent adverse weather condition.
Seven thousand farmers in the greater Jashore region were benefited by cultivating the potato seeds of the Ispahani Agro Ltd, said the company’s Jashore Area Manager agriculturist Md Asiful Islam at a field day programme recently.
The field day was organised by Ispahani Agro Limited at Alamnagar under Maheshpur upazila in Jhenaidah, says the company in a statement.
About 100 farmers gathered on the field of potato farmer Siddiqur Rahman on the day.
It was chaired by Habibur Rahman, representative of the Department of Agricultural Extension in Maheshpur.
Sudden rains in early December caused damage to potato seeds in the region. Then about 200 farmers including Siddiqur Rahman used the Diamond potato seeds of the Ispahani Agro Ltd and thus they overcame the losses.
They harvested 3.5 maunds of potato per decimal. If there had been no rain, the yield could have been higher, the farmers said.
