The foreign exchange market witnessed a good volume of payments in the week ended Thursday last. Higher import payments than export receipts continued widening the current account deficit.
Bangladesh Bank increased the exchange rate of the dollar to BDT 82.96. BB continued selling dollars into the market, according to a weekly review of Commercial Bank of Ceylon.
The average daily inter-bank USDBDT transaction volume was about USD 123.21 million against USD 156.72 million of the preceding week.
Most of the banks kept their USD/BDT rates unchanged for customers this week. The USD/BDT selling rates for importers of major foreign and private banks were at Tk 83.50, while USD buying rates from exporters were at Tk 82.50. For non- commercial payments such as telegraphic transfer as donations, wage earners remittance, dollar drafts etc, the average T.T buying rate was between Tk 81.36 and Tk 82.48 while average T.T Selling rate was at 83.46 on the last working day.
USDBDT swap market in the week remained active. The daily average volume of swap transaction was around USD 68.20 million.
