BENAPOLE: Import and export between Bangladesh and India through Benapole land port remained suspended for the last two days on the occasion of Christmas Day, the main religious festival of the Christians.
However, trade between the two neighbouring countries will resume this (Sunday) morning.
Kartik Chandra, general secretary of C&F Agent Staff Welfare Association in India, said 6,000 trucks, laden with goods, got stuck at Petrapole port in India due to suspension of the import-export activities.
Import and export between India and Bangladesh through Benapole and Petrapole ports remained suspended on Saturday on the occasion of the main religious festival of the Christians, he added.
Raju Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Benapole check-post immigration, said even though import-export remained suspended, passengers' travel between the two countries was normal. A total of 450 passengers have travelled since morning, he added.
Benapole Customs Commissioner Md Azizur Rahman said import-export through Benapole-Petrapole ports remained suspended on Friday, a weekly holiday, and on Saturday, a public holiday. Import-export activities will resume today.
