IFC to support create venture capital investment-friendly climate in BD

Wendy Jo Werner, country manager for Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal of IFC paid a visit at the Gulshan office of eGeneration Ltd. in Dhaka recently, said a statement.

Wendy Jo Werner said, “Building capacity and infrastructure to develop disruptive technologies in Bangladesh to improve global competitiveness is becoming increasingly important, which will eventually reflect positively on the national economic development".

"IFC will work jointly to support reforms to make doing business easier for private sector while promoting sustainable growth in Bangladesh.” she affirmed support from IFC, stressing the importance of creating and maintaining a venture capital investment-friendly climate to enable startup companies grow.

At the meeting with board members of eGeneration and its affiliate companies, Wendy praised the company for being the first Bangladeshi software company to move for floating IPO.

 

Shameem Ahsan said, “Disruptive technologies are next big thing which all global markets are looking at and for Bangladesh it can be our strategy to leapfrog to more developed economy. Locally, eGeneration and few other IT companies have developed expert skills on these technologies. We must adapt to these new technologies if we wish to remain relevant in the future. With IFC in support, we can make a stronger case to the regulatory bodies for venture capital and create an environment that is optimal for the growth of homegrown innovative technologies.”
