The members of staff of the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA) have donated their one day salary to bring 1000 rickshaw pullers under insurance coverage, said a press release.
The IDRA arranged an event on Monday in the capital titled ‘Insurance for All’ (Shobar Jonno Bima), in collaboration with Green Delta Insurance, with a view to secure the lives of people living below the poverty line.
The IDRA has paid the insurance premium for accidental polices for 1,000 rickshaw pullers. This will cover them for one year and the approximate amount of the insurance is Tk 100,000.
Chairman of the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA) Md. Shafiqur Rahman Patwary was present at the programme as the chief guest.
Ms Farzana Chowdhury, Managing Director & CEO of Green Delta Insurance and advisor Nasir A. Chowdhury, among others, attended the function.
Mr Patwary said that this was a historic moment for the insurance industry as the initiative was never taken before.
The insurance would ensure the safety of the rickshaw pullers during their difficult times, he added.
