Humaira Azam is set to become the first top woman executive officer of a private commercial bank in the country.
The Board of Directors of the Trust Bank Limited on Monday gave her the appointment as the bank's MD and the appointment now awaits Bangladesh Bank's approval, Ms Humaira confirmed the matter to the FE on Tuesday.
Ms Humaira has a long career in the country's banking and non-banking financial institutions.
Ms Humaira, who has been serving as the additional managing director at Trust Bank since 2018, also served earlier as managing director and chief executive officer of the non-bank financial institution IPDC.
Graduated from Dhaka University with a Master's degree in International Relations in 1989, Ms Humaira started her career as a management trainee in ANZ Grindlays Bank in 1990.
Later she joined HSBC Bangladesh in 1996 and served as the head of the Financial Institutions Department.
She joined Standard Chartered Bank in 2002 and successfully discharged her responsibility as the director of its Group Special Assets Management for seven years.
In 2009, she joined IPDC as its MD and CEO and joined the Bank Asia as its deputy managing director and chief risk officer in 2012.
Earlier, Ms Mahtab Jabin was the first woman who became the managing director (MD) of state-run Probashi Kallyan Bank.
