Hilsa fish export deadline extended to Nov 05

The government has extended the deadline for exporting Hilsa to India up to November 05, 2021.

The decision has been taken as the exporters could not execute their pre-scheduled consignments due to a 20-day official ban on fishing that ended on Monday last, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Commerce on Tuesday.

The government had imposed the fishing ban from October 04 last, six days before the deadline of export permission that expired on October 10.

In September last, the commerce ministry gave special permission in favour of 115 firms to export 4,600 tonnes of Hilsa ahead of Durga Puja.

The export conditions issued earlier will remain unchanged.

According to the conditions, the commerce ministry gave permission to export 40 tonnes of Hilsa fish by each firm.

Besides, the traders have to follow the Export Policy 2018-21. The physical examination must be done by the customs authorities concerned.

In 2020, only nine out of nearly 200 applicants got permission to export Hilsa to India.

In September 2020, the government had allowed exporting 1,475 tonnes of Hilsa to India as a gesture of goodwill on the occasion of Durga Puja.

In 2019, the government gave permission to export 500 tonnes of Hilsa during Durga Puja.
