Growth of the economic activities generated through the wholesale and retail trade along with repair of motor services may decline marginally in the current fiscal year.
Wholesale and retail trade and repair of motor vehicles is classified as one of the sectors of the national account. This sector is a part of overall service sector.
Provisional estimation released by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) showed that the sector is likely to post 7.17 per cent growth in the current fiscal year which was 7.37 per cent in the previous fiscal year.
Its’ share in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) also set to decline marginally to 13.94 per cent in the current fiscal year which was 14.01 per cent in FY17.
Meanwhile, the latest labour force survey showed that some 8.65 million workers are employed in this sector.
