The government has decided to operate and maintain the third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA), expected to be opened this year for passengers, through public-private partnership (PPP) initiative.
A meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Finance Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal, gave the decision on Thursday, following which the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) can go for signing PPP contract with a private sector firm.
The CAAB is now building the HSIA third terminal under a Tk 213.98-billion development project.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP), in its meeting on Thursday, approved procurement of 11 million litres of soybean oil for the state-run Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) from local source and 8,000 tonnes of lentil for checking prices of essentials during the upcoming month of Ramadan.
After the meetings, Cabinet Division Additional Secretary Syed Mahbub Khan said the cabinet committee approved a proposal of the TCB under the Ministry of Commerce to procure 11 million litres of soybean oil at a cost of Tk 2.0 billion from Shun Shing Edible Oil Ltd.
TCB will also purchase 8,000 tonnes of lentil from ETC Agro Processing Pvt Ltd, India (local agent: Export Trading BD Ltd, Dhaka) at Tk 739.6 million, he added.
The meeting also approved the Roads and Highways Department's (RHD) procurement proposal of the civil works under Package WP-02 of the 'SASEC Dhaka-Sylhet Corridor Road Development Project' from joint venture of HEGO, China and Mir Akhter, Bangladesh at Tk 10.55 billion.
The CCGP also endorsed a proposal of the Public Works Department (PWD) to procure electrification works of the 'Construction of Nine Residential Tower Buildings for Policemen in Dhaka Metropolitan Area Project' under Package WD-5/2 from Noorani Construction Ltd at Tk 232 million.
The meeting also approved a variation proposal of the CAAB under the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism to procure civil works under the 'Construction of General Aviation Hangar, Hangar Apron and Apron at North Side of Fire Station at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport Project' at Tk 267.9 million.
The joint venture of BUCG, NDE and AERONESS, Bangladesh is working to construct the hanger.
