The government is set to purchase an estimated 21-million litres of soybean oil to arrest the price spiral of the item during the upcoming holy month of Ramadan, sources said.
It has also a plan to purchase 8,000 tonnes of lentil from the international market, they added.
The 39th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase is likely to approve the proposals today (Wednesday) on a virtual platform.
Five more proposals are expected to be discussed during the high-profile meeting to be chaired by finance minister AHM Mustafa Kamal.
Of the 21-million litres, a source said, Trading Corporation of Bangladesh will procure 4.4-million litres, 11-million litres and 5.5-million litres from local, international and local sources respectively.
Besides, import proposals for fertilisers, including potash and urea granular bulk, and other issues are expected to come up during the meeting.
