Govt plans tourism fair from next year

The government has decided to hold international tourism fair from next year to promote both inbound and outbound tourism.

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon came up with the information on Sunday.

He said, "So far, no tourism fair has been organised with the government efforts. We have decided to organise an international tourism fair every year under the auspices of the government."

According to BSS, he was speaking after unveiling the first issue of the newsletter published by Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation (BPC) titled "Travelogue" at a city hotel.

"The government will invite key players of the tourism as well as different countries around the world to attend the tourism fair," Menon said, adding “we would like to showcase our tourism potential in front of the tourism officials of our targeted tourist generating countries.”

Criticising the recent travel advisories, issued by Australia and the United Kingdom (UK) for their citizens to visit Bangladesh, the minister said as per the UNWTO, a travel advisory must be issued to particular geographical area within certain time frame.

At present, he said, Bangladesh is one of the safest places in the world for travel in terms of the numbers of unusual incident against its huge population.

The tourism minister urged the countries concerned to withdraw their travel warning against Bangladesh visit.

BPC chairman Akhtaruzzaman Khan Kabir and Travelogue Ferdous Mottakin also spoke on the occasion, among others.

The BPC will publish the newsletter in collaboration with Off-road Bangladesh every month as e-book via email broadcast and social media.
