The government has included the cold storages in ‘Green Category’ under the Bangladesh Environment Conservation Act.
The Ministry of Environment and Forests and the Department of Environment took the initiative to enable the entrepreneurs to contribute more to agro business economy, said a press release on Tuesday, reports BSS.
Earlier, the Business Initiative Leading Development (BUILD) made a recommendation in this regard its 5th Private Sector Development Policy Coordination Committee Meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office in the city recently.
Chief Executive Officer of the BUILD Ferdaus Ara Begum hailed this effort as Bangladesh has limited post-harvest storage infrastructure.
Currently, 393 cold storages all over the country can preserve 2.4 million metric tonnes goods against the demand of 4.5 million metric tonnes.
